T&E Meats has just announced our new Meat Professional Apprenticeship Program! Our training program is being called a Meat Professional Apprenticeship because our apprentices will learn every aspect of the local meat processing industry, from humane animal handling to slaughter to processing, curing and smoking, inventory control, industrial and meat safety, packaging and shipping, as well as the business aspects required to run a USDA Small Meat Processing Plant.
The T&E Meats Apprenticeship Program is a Virginia State Department of Labor certified program. Apprentices who successfully complete the program will be awarded an official Journeyman’s Card, just like an electrician, plumber or other highly trained tradesperson.

And here is an excerpt from the announcement on the Butcher’s Guild website.
“T&E Meats is making a bold commitment to start the first Meat Professional Apprenticeship Program in Virginia, and as far as we know, our Apprenticeship Program is the first of its kind in the country,” says Co-‐ Owner/Manager Joe Cloud. “We have worked with several Virginia State Agencies to make this program a reality, including the Virginia Department of Labor and Industry.”
